Crimson Anemone, Cribrinopsis rubens
This distinctive anemone is commonly found in high current areas along the Pacific NW coast. Formerly know as Cribrinopsis fernaldi, there are now two distinct species acknowledged. The more commonly found species has been re-described as Cribrinopsis rubens in 2019. (see here for details) The white columned, bottom substrate dwelling species has retained the name Cribrinopsis fernaldi. These glamorous anemone are sometimes home to the even more spectacular looking Candy-Stripe shrimp, which lives under and among the protective tentacles.
