Proliferating Anemone, Epiactis prolifera.
Commonly confused with Brooding anemone, the Proliferating Anemone is actually quite different from a morphological stand point. Typically smaller, this anemone is a hermaphrodite once mature as compared to the Brooding which is distinctive sexually. The self fertilized eggs are extruded onto the disk and make their may down onto the body column where they hatch and grow for a few months under the protective care of the stinging tentacles. Babies of various sizes can be found on a single parent and is one way to distinguish these from the Brooding Anemone.
