Tiger Rockfish

Tiger Rockfish, Sebastes nigrocinctus

Usually found lurking in rocky caves or in large boulder fields underwater.  Tiger Rockfish are territorial and extremely long lived. Fish have been studied that are over 150 years old. They range from Alaska to California, and are a vulnerable species.  Tiger Rockfish can be shy and often when divers approach these fish all they end up  seeing is a tail sticking out of the rocks.

Usually hanging out in rocky caves or crevices, it is a treat to see a Tiger Rockfish swimming out in the open.
