In healthy reefs around the world tropical fish abound in all colours and shapes.
From small schooling species such as the popular Lyretail Anthias to the largest fish in the sea, the Whale Shark, there is an abundance of tropical fish that fill every niche in the warm oceans around the world. Healthy reef systems are unlike typical land environments in that the predator / prey ratio is much higher . In the ocean the healthiest reefs have the largest percentage of large prey type species such as sharks, grouper, and barracuda. Over 6000 species of fish live in the one percent of the ocean that make up coral reefs around the world.
